State legislative committee observes moment of silence for victims of Orlando mass shooting
MADISON — The Wisconsin Legislature's budget committee is marking a moment of silence for the 49 people killed at a nightclub shooting in Orlando.
The Joint Finance Committee began a meeting Monday with the moment of silence. Committee co-chair Sen. Alberta Darling says the moment of silence was for the "people who were massacred in Orlando." She calls the shooting at a gay nightclub a "travesty and tragedy."
Reactions to the shooting were coming from across Wisconsin.
Gov. Scott Walker offered his prayer on Sunday, saying on Twitter "United we stand against terrorism." Walker is in Mexico for a trade mission.
Madison Police Chief Mike Koval says in a blog posting that the shooting is "a hate-induced rampage against the LGBT community."
