Students in Watertown excited to hear Michelle Obama speak

WATERTOWN (WITI) -- The message delivered by First Lady Michelle Obama at Watertown High School on Thursday, September 12th was as clear as a glass of water:

For Watertown High School students, the importance of gulping down the H20 was reinforced by a hug from the first lady.

Michelle Obama’s visit came as a shock to students.  They only found out on Monday.

"I try to stay away from soda as much as I can.  I drink it sometimes," one student told FOX6 News.

After launching the "Drink Up" campaign in the high school cafeteria, Mrs. Obama and actress Eva Longoria headed into the gymnasium.  They played water-themed games with students.

“As football players, drink water is really important to us. We need it to play to the best of our ability," a Watertown High School football player said.

Students also went home with "Drink Up" water bottles.  They’re reusable with the hope students will continue to drink water.
