Suspect in crash involving pedestrian seriously hurt after pursuit, crash in Grafton

GRAFTON -- Officials with the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office say a suspect wanted in connection with a crash involving a pedestrian in Sheboygan County was seriously hurt in a crash after a pursuit in Grafton Saturday night, August 6th.

This all began with that crash in Sheboygan County, which happened just after 8:00 p.m.

Police say the suspect fled the scene after striking a pedestrian. A vehicle description and license plate number of the suspect vehicle were provided to other law enforcment agencies.

About 40 minutes later, an Ozaukee County Sheriff's deputy on patrol -- monitoring traffic on I-43 near Pioneer Road in Grafton spotted the suspect vehicle headed southbound on the freeway.

The deputy attempted to stop the suspect vehicle -- and the vehicle pulled over, but before the deputy could make contact with the driver, the vehicle fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit ensued, with speeds in excess of 110 miles-per-hour.

The suspect vehicle struck another southbound vehicle -- and the suspect vehicle rolled multiple times on I-43 near Port Washington Road.

The driver of the other vehicle that was struck wasn't hurt.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was taken to the hospital via ambulance, and ultimately transferred to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life for treatment of serious injuries.

He is a 26-year-old Illinois man.

I-43 SB was closed from Mequon Road to Brown Deer Road for approximately two hours as a result of this incident.
