RACINE/OAK CREEK (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say a man is in custody after fleeing from deputies following a traffic stop on Sunday afternoon, June 8th.
It all started with a traffic stop on I-94 in Racine County just after noon on Sunday.
Racine County Sheriff's deputies say when a drug-sniffing dog showed up, the driver got spooked -- and took off.
The chase involved speeds of 90+ miles-per-hour and occurred on I-94 from Racine up into Milwaukee County.
Deputies say the man took the Drexel Avenue exit and then hopped the median -- crashing into a ditch.
"Jumped out of a vehicle and a foot chase started. A perimeter was set up. He ran southbound through some church and school parking lots and through a field and wooded area," Racine County Sheriff's Lieutenant Dan Klatt said.
The man was taken into custody near 13th and Puetz -- near the Oak Creek Community United Methodist Church.
He is a 22-year-old Milwaukee man.
He is currently being held at the Racine County Jail on charges including recklessly endangering safety, fleeing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and other traffic charges.
