The only school of its kind in the country! Folks tour UWM's School of Freshwater Sciences

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It is the only graduate-level school of its kind in the country, and it's in Milwaukee. This weekend, the public had the opportunity to check out UW-Milwaukee's School of Freshwater Sciences.

An open house was held at the expanded home of the School of Freshwater Sciences -- located along the KK River, just east of the intersection of 1st and Greenfield.

People had the opportunity to tour the $53 million state-of-the-art facility and learn a few things about what actually goes on there.

"This is, without a question, is the premiere academic research institute on the Great Lakes. And the School of Freshwater Sciences, believe it or not, is the only school of freshwater sciences in the country. There is nothing, in my view, more important to the future of this region and the state of Wisconsin, the city of Milwaukee, than the health of the Great Lakes," Val Klump with the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences said.
