"They looked like teenagers:" After attempted carjacking, suspect vehicle hits school bus

MILWAUKEE -- An attempted carjacking takes a scary turn. Investigators say it led to a car chase and ended with the suspects hitting a school bus.

The incident began near 15th and Scott around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 24th.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a woman flagged down a deputy, indicating a group of people were trying to break into her vehicle, and a gun was pointed at her.

The group of four people fled the scene in a minivan (not the woman's vehicle) -- and the deputy pursued them.

The pursuit was eventually terminated.

However, that same deputy spotted the suspect van again -- and another pursuit ensued. During this second pursuit, the chase came to a halt when the suspects' minivan got wedged between a school bus and a parked car near 50th and Townsend.

"It was really scary," said Ayanna Bennett, a fifth-grader.

Bennett's ride home from school took a frightening turn.

"As we drive up, I see a police car," said Bennett.

Bennett was moments from home when the van filled with the four suspects hit her school bus. Her father, Darnell, ran to the scene.

"Just within a quick second, I heard a big smack," said Darnell Bennett.

"As the car hit the side of the bus, I hit my head against the window," said Ayanna Bennett.

After crashing into the school bus, the suspects tried running from the scene.

"They looked like teenagers. They were not that old," said Judith Eigen, a witness.
