Thompson to kick off U.S. Senate campaign on December 1
Tommy Thompson plans a December 1st kickoff for his U.S. Senate campaign.
The former Republican governor emailed supporters over the weekend letting them know of the event at Weldall Manufacturing in Waukesha. The announcement comes after Thompson filed the required paperwork in October to launch his campaign for the open Senate seat.
He has been raising money and campaigning quietly for months. Also running on the Republican side is former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann and state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald. State Sen. Frank Lasee and businessman Eric Hovde are among those considering getting into the race as well.
U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin is the only declared Democratic candidate.
The seat is open due to the retirement of Democratic U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl.
