MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Thousands packed the lakefront on Saturday, August 3rd, for the kickoff of the 2013 Milwaukee Air and Water Show. The two-day free event is made possible by dozens of sponsors.
The day started with former All-Star Brewers Third Baseman Jeff Cirillo making a tandem jump with the all-veteran parachute team.
"It's great to have a whole different perspective of Milwaukee," said Cirillo. "It was endless. An endless time of getting up there and going."
Last year's show drew more than 700,000 visitors, and organizers are hoping to break that record with this year's attendance.
"Everybody is a kid when you're watching air shows. You, me. We're all kids watching airplanes," said Herb Hunter, the voice of the Milwaukee Air and Water Show.
One thing missing from this year's show were the United State Air Force Thunderbirds.
"I had heard they cut back a lot on their air shows. That's unfortunate," said Madison resident Rick Glad.
The show continues on Sunday, August 4th, running from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
