Waterford School District sent a letter to parents regarding the threat:
Dear parents of the Waterford Graded School District,
This morning there was a threat communicated in a bathroom at Trailside Elementary. We immediately notified Law Enforcement and evacuated the building. A Skylert message as well as an email was sent out to Trailside families notifying them of the situation. The responding Racine County Sheriff's Deputies took control of the threat situation and students were transported to Evergreen as a precaution. The building was deemed safe by Law Enforcement and they established that there was no credible threat. At no time was there any immediate threat to students, staff or any other school.
While at Evergreen School, all students were fed lunch and allowed time for recess. With permission from the Racine County Sheriff's Office, we began transporting the children back to Trailside School at 12:15 p.m. At all times teachers remained with their classes so that students felt safe and secure. Waterford Graded counselors were available to assist students as needed.
We commend you for your patience, support and confidence in our handling of the situation. We, in conjunction with Law Enforcement, have a crisis plan in place and the plan was executed accordingly. Mr. Dembosky and the Trailside Staff handled the evacuation and transportation back to school in a clam and professional manner.
We want to express our gratitude to the Racine County Sheriff's Office for their expertise in handling the situation. We want to thank Dousman Transportation Company for assisting us on such short notice and Taher Food Service for providing lunches to Trailside students. We would also like to thank Evergreen School and the Trailside Staff for handling this crisis situation with the utmost efficiency. Finally, a special thank you to Trailside students for representing Trailside Elementary with their positive citizenship and handling a difficult situation in the best way possible -- Well Done!
Ed Brzinski, Superintendent
Waterford Graded School District
