Three Campbellsport H.S. students killed, six hurt in crash

FOND DU LAC CO. -- Three girls were killed in an accident north of Highway 67 in the Township of Ashford. Another six girls were seriously hurt. All were students at Campbellsport High School. Sunday, friends and family gathered in Campbellsport to remember the girls who died, and pray for those still recovering.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department says the single-vehicle accident happened shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Apparently the SUV the girls were riding in was headed northbound on Beechnut Road when it left the road, rolled over and ended up in a field. Several of the teens in the packed SUV were ejected from the vehicle.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff says speed and failure to wear seat belts appear to be factors in the crash.  Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.

All nine girls are students of the Campbellsport School District. Officials say counselors will be made available to help victims and their families. On Sunday, the high school opened its doors for grieving classmates and families. Superintendent Dan Olson says counselors and teachers were on hand. "We have kids that are struggling with their emotions, and we understand that," Olson said.

At least two of the victim's families attend St. Matthew Church.
