Traffic stop leads to drug seizure in Racine County
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's Deputies seized marijuana and about $14,000 in cash during a traffic stop that happened on I-94 in the Town of Yorkville on September 17th.
The SUV was pulled over for equipment violations. When a deputy approached the vehicle, officials say he could smell a very strong odor of raw marijuana and air fresheners that are commonly used to mask the odor of drugs.
Deputies searched the vehicle and located a small amount of marijuana and two packages of money. One package was found underneath a seat and contained $8,000 and the second package was hidden in the center console of the vehicle and contained $6,000.
The two people in the SUV are husband and wife and are from Milwaukee. The wife claimed no knowledge of the marijuana or the money. The husband claimed that he was “saving” the money.
The husband was charged with felony possession of marijuana as a repeat drug offender and various traffic charges and held at the Racine County Jail on cash bond.
