Two adults, two children, horse injured in Amish buggy crash

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WITI) -- Columbia County Sheriff's officials say two adults and two children were injured in a buggy crash involving a vehicle that occurred on State Highway 22 north of State Highway 33 in the Township of Marcellon.

Sheriff's officials say the crash investigation confirms that both the horse-drawn buggy and the 2002 Dodge Caravan were traveling southbound on State Highway 22.

Officials say the buggy contained two adults and three children. The Dodge Caravan was being driven by a lone male occupant who admittedly fell asleep and his vehicle subsequently rear-ended the buggy.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan was identified as 62-year-old Dennis Thom of rural Pardeeville was not injured in the crash.

The occupants of the Amish buggy were identified as:

Driver: 39-year-old Joni Miller

Passenger: 39-year-old Normal Miller

Three minor children: ages five, four and 10 months old

The adult female and three children were ejected from the buggy and the adult male was partially ejected during the crash.

The two adults and two of the three children in the buggy were transported to Divine Savior Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The third child was released from the scene without injuries.

The horse was seriously injured and was euthanized by Lodi Equine Veterinary Clinic staff shortly after the crash.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Pardeeville Fire, Pardeeville EMS, Blystone’s Towing of Portage, and Lodi Veterinary Clinic.
