DODGE COUNTY -- Two children had to be flown to Children's Hospital on Sunday evening, September 27th after a serious crash near the Dodge County/Washington County line.
Authorities say the driver may have been under the influence.
It happened at I-41 and Highway 28 in the Town of Lomira, a little before 5:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows that a Ford Contour was traveling northbound on Interstate 41 when the vehicle entered the west side gravel shoulder. The vehicle then traveled across both lanes, where it struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels.
During the roll, two children were ejected from the vehicle. The driver, passenger and third child remained in the vehicle.
A six-month-old was transported by Flight for Life to Children’s Hospital with severe injuries. A three-year-old was also transported by Flight of Life to Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A one-year-old was transported by Fond du Lac paramedics to Children’s Hospital.
The male driver and female passenger received minor injuries. The female passenger refused medical attention, and the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of those minor injuries.
Assisting at the scene were Theresa Fire Department, Theresa EMS, Horicon EMS, Mayville EMS, Fond du Lac Paramedics, Lomira Police Department, Slinger Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Flight for Life.
At this time names are being withheld.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team.
"We believe that there may have been some other factors that were contributing such as speed and potentially the use of some sort of intoxicant," Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt said.
One of the adults in the vehicle was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
