Day care workers face felony charges after two-year-old is beaten

RACINE (WITI) -- A two-year-old child was held down and beaten by several other kids at a daycare in Racine, while adult workers looked on, laughed, and recorded the incident.

The incident occurred at Bundles of Blessings Kid Kare on April 12th. Day care workers Krystina Woods and Jakitta Hollins have been fired and are facing felony abuse charges.

Dominique Johnson, the mother of the victim, says Woods and Hollins lied to her about what happened, even after she told them her son was throwing up when he got home. Johnson was told the bump on his eye and swollen lip were just an accident.

It wasn't until two weeks after the incident that Johnson found out what really happened when the day care's former director sent her the video via text.

"It took so long for them to tell me about it. My soon could have died. He could have died," said Johnson.

In the video of the beating, you can hear Woods behind the camera, laughing as she films.

"How they jumped on my baby and then for adults to sit there and watch and laugh and record it," cried Johnson

Hollins told investigators she saw the fight start but left the room to take care of other children. She claims she broke up the fight when she finally returned to the room and saw the kids still going at it.

The Department of Children and Family Services revoked Bundles of Blessings' license on Thursday, May 2nd. According to the state's website the day care had 52 rule violations in the last two years, including incomplete background checks on its employees.

The two-year-old child has been to a doctor. His mother says he's physically okay, but emotionally he's still very scared.
