Two injured in snowmobile crash in Town of Yorkville
RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say two people were injured in a snowmobile crash on Sunday, January 26th.
It happened near Spring Street and 61st Drive in the Town of Yorkville.
Sheriff's officials say the crash site was located about a half-mile from the nearest road.
An initial investigation revealed the snowmobile was traveling southwest across a farm field and did not stop for a large drainage canal.
Officials say the snowmobile flew approximately 35 feet, landing in the bottom of the canal nearly 20 feet down.
Officials say the snowmobile was not being operated on a marked snowmobile trail.
Both of those injured were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
It was determined that alcohol was a factor in this crash.
The snowmobile operator was cited for intoxicated operation of a snowmobile as well as causing injury by intoxicated operation of a snowmobile.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
