Two of 13 arrested during weekend Operation Drive Sober patrols picked up for fifth offense

MILWAUKEE -- Thirteen people were arrested during this weekend's Operation Drive Sober patrols, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Sunday, June 26th. Of those, two people were arrested for their fifth DUI offense.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke has ordered a continued aggressive weekend Driving Under the Influence (DUI) initiative to rid the Milwaukee County freeway system of drunken drivers.

This weekend’s Operation Drive Sober initiative, from Friday, June 24th at 4:00 p.m. through Sunday, June 26th at 6:00 a.m., resulted in the arrest of 13 drunken drivers.  The average PBT result was .14.

A 32-year-old Grafton man was one of two men arrested for DUI -- fifth offense.

On Saturday, shortly before 2:00 a.m., the man's vehicle was stopped on I-43 NB at Burleigh -- and a deputy noted the driver smelled of alcohol. The driver was arrested after performing poorly on field sobriety tests, and tested a .11 on a preliminary breath test.

The man told officials he drank four beers at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino.

He has four prior drunken driving convictions: October 2002, February 2007, August 2011 and April 2016.

A 67-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on Sunday, June 26th.

A deputy stopped his vehicle for speeding and lane deviations on I-43 NB near North Avenue shortly after midnight.

The man tested a .15 on a preliminary breath test, and told officials he had two shots and a beer.

Sheriff's officials say the man became combative at the hospital and had to be physically restrained for a blood draw.

His prior offenses were in January 1992, April 1996, March 1998 and March 2002.

These arrests come amid an OWI Task Force crackdown now that we're in the height of festival season in Milwaukee.

A total of 35 law enforcement agencies are warning that if you choose to drink and drive, you'll be caught.
