U.S. Coast Guard officer accused of assault in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A U.S. Coast Guard officer is accused of having abusive sexual contact with a colleague while he was stationed in Milwaukee last November.
The Coast Guard said in a news release Tuesday the officer was assigned to the Lake Michigan facility in Milwaukee. The release doesn't describe the alleged contact but says the man is also accused of attempted sexual assault and making false statements during the investigation.
His case has been referred to an Article 32 hearing, which is similar to a civilian grand jury hearing. Coast Guard spokesman Christopher Yaw says the outcome could range from having the charges dropped to a court-martial.
The man was transferred to Station Grand Haven, Mich., after the investigation. A message left for him there was not immediately returned.
