Unconscious man pulled from burning vehicle by good Samaritans dies from injuries
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mount Pleasant police said a 31-year-old man involved in a crash on Saturday, Nov. 10 near Highway V and State Highway 20/Washington Avenue died from his injuries on Nov. 13.
The victim has been identified as Richard Keller, a Mount Pleasant man.
Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Good Samaritans pulled Keller from his burning vehicle after the crash, which happened around 7 a.m. on Nov. 10. Police said Keller was traveling westbound on State Highway 20, and his vehicle collided with a vehicle headed southbound, driven by a 34-year-old woman from Racine.
Keller's vehicle ended up in the southwest ditch, where it started on fire.
That's when the good Samaritans pulled Keller from the vehicle, before first responders arrived. He was taken to Froedtert Hospital in critical condition, and died three days later. The 34-year-old woman in the other vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Police initially said alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in this crash.
