MILWAUKEE - Hundreds of lucky bike riders got to take over the Hoan Bridge this morning for the United Performing Arts Fund annual Ride for the Arts.
After two years of modified rides, the UPAF Ride for the Arts welcomed hundreds of riders, helping get the arts back on their feet.
"The performing arts were one of any sector to close and the very last to open. What that meant was 18 months of all of our venues being closed," said Patrick Rath, UPAF president and CEO.
Many of these riders, like Jack Friebolin, have been participating in this event for decades.
"We always support the arts. It's an important part of any city, especially Milwaukee," he said.
It’s community members like him that keep the Milwaukee performing art scene alive.
Funds from the ride go towards continuing the operations at the dozens of art organizations they support throughout the city.
"Each year we have about 15 thousand individuals in our community who say ‘we are for the arts’ and make that gift to support our great organization. Please join us, we wish to reach 10.5 million dollars in total funds raised. We’re well on our way and thank you for all your support this year," said Rath.
If you did not get a chance to ride this year, you can still support the arts financially. To donate, visit their website.
