UPDATE: One critically injured in shooting in downtown Denver; suspect found dead
DENVER — One woman was critically injured in a shooting in downtown Denver Tuesday afternoon, June 28th. It happened near 15th and Wynkoop. Police responded quickly and shut down a number of streets in the area while they dealt with an "active shooting scene."
A spokesman at Denver Health Medical Center said they did not expect any more victims.
Police said the shooting happened at 2:42 p.m. inside the Alliance Center at 1536 Wynkoop. The scene was secure at around 3:30 p.m. There was no further danger to the public according to police.
Denver Police spokesman Doug Schepman said a male suspect was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He said the woman was shot multiple times and in critical condition.
Schepman said the victim appeared to be targeted and this did not look like a random shooting, but he emphasized this was very early, preliminary information.
People ran out of the building at 1536 Wynkoop when the shooting happened.
