Update: Racine police release results of burglary prevention effort
RACINE -- Racine police released results this week on an effort to reduce crime in the city.
Police Chief Art Howell announced the "Focus on Five" initiative. It focused on the following areas:
Officials say burglaries were reduced by 21 percent in 2014 (over 2013) and further reduced by an additional 22 percent year to date in 2015. Still, officials say additional work remains ahead.
As a result of the community efforts and the Racine Police Department’s diligent Officers and Investigators, the Racine Police Department has arrested over twenty people for burglary offenses over the last two months, some with multiple charges.
National statistics show that a large percentage of residential burglaries occur during daytime hours when many homes are unoccupied.
