Victim threatens to spray robbery suspect with gas, helps MPD locate him

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say an armed robbery suspect is in custody after the victim thwarted the robbery and helped identify him.

Officers responded to a gas station near 13th and Morgan around 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, January 29th for a report of an armed robbery. The 53-year-old male victim from Glendale was pumping gas when the suspect approached him with a gun and demanded his keys. The victim removed the gas nozzle from his vehicle and pointed it at the suspect. The suspect, concerned that he would be sprayed with gas, fled in his vehicle. But the victim was able to note the license plate and make and model of the car.

Shortly before 9:00 a.m., Milwaukee police located and stopped the car just south of 27th and Layton. The suspect, a 30-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested and a gun and marijuana were found in the car. The suspect is also believed to be responsible for stealing the car he was stopped in earlier in the morning near 60th and Bradley Rd.

Charges will be presented in both cases in the coming days to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
