Victims' names released after three weekend homicides

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating three homicides in three days. They took place Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

On Saturday afternoon, July 7th, 57-year-old Kenneth Johnson was fatally stabbed on Hopkins. Police have a suspect in custody in connection with this crime.  Milwaukee police say it was not a random act.

Geraldine Underwood lives on the street where Johnson was stabbed, and told FOX6 News violence isn't common in her neighborhood.

"The neighborhood is very quiet and it's very peaceful around here. The people tend to stay to themselves," Underwood said.

Just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, July 8th, a shooting happened on North 21st Street that killed 41-year-old Terrance Wallace.   There are no suspects in custody at this time, but officials say detectives are working a number of leads.

Linda Cook has lived on 21st Street since 1965, and grew up in the neighborhood. She lives on the same street where Wallace was shot and killed this weekend. She told FOX6 News it's common to hear gunshots in the neighborhood.

"I can count them when I'm laying down, and I can tell how far or how close they are, within the block radius, so it's something normal. It's not about fist-fights no more. It's guns, and that's the bad part," Cook said.

Cook told FOX6 News a bullet hit her home about six years ago, but despite the violence in the neighborhood, she hasn't thought about moving.

Early Monday morning, July 9th, 29-year-old John Jackson, Jr. was fatally shot on 14th Street in Milwaukee.  Officers are working leads, and say this was the result of an ongoing feud involving individuals the suspect knew.

"It makes me nervous when it happens on anyone's block," Cedric Cullen, who lives in the neighborhood said.
