Video, 911 calls released from incident involving Radcliffe, Zina Haughton
BROWN DEER -- Wednesday, October 24th FOX6 News obtained a 911 call made by Zina Haughton earlier in October which resulted in Brown Deer police tracking her down and attempting to make contact with her husband, Radcliffe Haughton. Radcliffe was the gunman in Sunday's shooting at the Azana Salon & Spa in Brookfield. Zina Haughton and two others were killed in the shooting, and four were injured. Since Sunday's shooting, FOX6 News has learned of a history of domestic violence incidents between Zina and Radcliffe Haughton.
When police came upon Zina Haughton on the evening of October 1st, they found her with injuries to her face, no shoes and a ripped shirt. That led police to believe her husband, Radcliffe had assaulted her. However, Radcliffe argued back.
In a 911 call released to FOX6 News Wednesday, Zina Haughton says: "I'm at a pay phone and I have to turn my phone off. My cell phone. It's an emergency."
911 Dispatcher: "You're not trying to call 911?"
Zina Haughton: "I don't want to call 911, but I am trying to disconnect my cell phone. It's an emergency."
Dispatcher: "It's an emergency that you have to disconnect your cell phone?"
Zina Haughton: "I do."
When a dispatcher asked Zina Haughton for her name, there was no response. That's when police were dispatched to the gas station.
According to a police report, officers found Zina at the gas station with marks on her face, no shoes and apparently drunk.
Officer: "Zina, what's going on here? There's more to it than just your phone. What happened to the side of your head?"
Zina Haughton: "Where Officer? Is it my makeup? Yes, Officer. It's probably my eyeliner."
Officer: "Do you need me to walk you to a mirror? Let's go in the bathroom and look at it."
Given her injuries, police believed her husband, Radcliffe had hurt her. Police showed up at the Haughton's home and believed they saw Radcliffe inside, though he would dispute that the next day.
"I was not there when (police) came. I was out," Radcliffe Haughton said.
In an interview with police, Radcliffe said they had gotten it all wrong and he believed Zina was cheating on him.
"Once again, she came home intoxicated. In her drunken state, she tripped in the hallway. Matter of fact, she hit her face on our climate control. I said 'okay, since you don't want to tell me what happened, I'm sure your cell phone will.' She had a purse on. I grabbed her purse, took the phone out of it and that's when the confrontation started," Radcliffe Haughton told officers.
Radcliffe Haughton showed police injuries of his own he claimed Zina had given him.
In the police report, Zina never said her husband had hit her, and would not answer some police questions.
