Vigil held for 17-year-old who was shot and killed at a park

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Family and friends gathered Thursday, May 9th, at a vigil for 17-year-old Daniel Gardner, who was shot and killed at a MIlwaukee park in broad daylight.

Gardner was gunned down at Washington Park on Monday, May 6th, in front of his girlfriend and a child.

"I'm hurt because I miss my brother. He ain't even a fighter. I'm just so hurt," said Irenita Cosey, the victim's stepsister.

Gardner's family and friends are mourning their loss and making a plea to others.

"If I seen it happen, I would tell," said Cosey.

Loved ones are asking the public for any information about the shooter. They are asked to think about a description, including clothing, tattoos or anything else that might help police in their investigation.

"Whatever he did to anybody, I promise you it wasn't worth taking his life. It's crazy to be out here killing one another," said Gardner's stepmother, Juanita Cosey.

Elder Malcolm Hunt of Pastors United said "It is time for us to come together and stop blaming others for the crimes we're committing against each other."

Daniel Gardner's funeral is set for Friday, May 17th at 11 a.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church near Teutonia and Cornell.

Police do not have anyone in custody at this time, but they do believe Gardner knew his killer. If you have any information about this incident you are asked to call 414-935-7360.
