Visitation, funeral planned for slain Wisconsin Marine on Saturday
GRANTSBURG, Wis. — A visitation and funeral are planned for a Wisconsin native who was among the four Marines and one sailor slain in the July 16 shootings at the Navy-Marine reserve center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
25-year-old Sgt. Carson Holmquist grew up in the northwestern Wisconsin community of Grantsburg. He was a 2008 graduate of Grantsburg High School. He joined the Marines in 2009 and served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.
The public visitation runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grantsburg High School. A private family service follows. The pallbearers will be a Marine Corps honor guard.
Gov. Scott Walker has canceled two presidential campaign stops to attend. He's ordered that flags be flown at half-staff until sunset.
Holmquist is survived by his wife, Jasmine, and their 2-year-old son, Wyatt.
