ST. FRANCIS (WITI) -- Hundreds of volunteers made the Easter holiday special for seniors on Sunday, March 31st -- providing a hot meal and fellowship.

An assembly line of volunteers put together the pieces of a perfect Easter meal inside the Community Projects for Seniors Headquarters in St. Francis.

"There's ham, there's carrots, there's some potato, there's pineapple, there's desserts," Tom Hayden said.

The meals were boxed up for seniors who wouldn't otherwise get them.

"They're seeing someone here on the holiday and they wouldn't have had that opportunity," Tally Hayden said.

"Giving back, that's what it's all about. We do it every holiday," Tom Hayden said.

"There are so many seniors that are forgotten. They are without a family, so this is more than a meal program," Executive Director Jeffrey Hansen said.

Once the meals were packed up, they were delivered to over 4,000 seniors.

"It's really about giving back to society," Tally Hayden said.

Over 200 volunteers delivered the meals to eight surrounding counties. Over 60 of them were delivered to the Mitchell Court on Milwaukee's south side.

"It's like a great gift -- a hot meal. They're doing this for us, and I appreciate it," one senior said.

Community Projects for Seniors has been delivering holiday meals since 1986. All of the meals are paid for with donations from the community.
