MILWAUKEE -- A 22-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for second degree recklessly endangering safety and cited of OWI after he was spotted driving the wrong way on I-43 early Sunday morning, Feb. 4.

According to authorities, around 3:45 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-43 near North Avenue.

The driver had struck a county plow, knocking a plow shoe off the truck.

When deputies found the driver, he was outside of his stopped vehicle brushing snow from the windows. He had corrected his direction -- and drove away when deputies approached.

Officials say the driver performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests -- and was arrested for felony 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, and cited for OWI-1st and diving the wrong way on a divided highway.

The felony charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
