Water concerns at Froedtert has people drinking bottled water

MILWAUKEE -- Water concerns on the Froedtert Medical College campus have patients, staff and visitors drinking bottled water for the time being.

Froedtert Center for Advanced Care

Here's what we know: A Froedtert spokeswoman tells FOX6 News late Thursday evening, testing showed an unusual level of minerals in the water supply at the Center for Advanced Care building.

In a statement, a spokeswoman says "out of an abundance of caution, we are supplying bottled water for all patients, staff and visitors in the hospital and clinics building until further testing is completed."

The spokeswoman says lead is not involved, but at this point we don't know what minerals are involved -- nor do we know how different those mineral levels are from normal.

The spokeswoman tells us they're not sure what the source of the unusual mineral level is, which is why they're not drinking the water until further test results are complete.

FOX6 News also spoke with the director of Milwaukee County's facilities management division. He says that the Milwaukee County water system does not appear to be the source, nor has it been affected by the unusual mineral levels seen at the Center for Advanced Care.

He believes this is isolated to the one facility and says there have not been any other reports of unusual mineral levels in the Milwaukee County water system.

Froedtert says they are doing further testing as precaution, but testing done on Friday showed normal results.

On the Froedtert campus, we're told they're still using the water for washing hands, flushing toilets and showering.

Further testing is being done but it will take a couple of days to get the results. The spokeswoman says they plan to keep using bottled water through the weekend.

Children's Hospital has not been impacted by this, they are still able to use their regular water for consumption.
