Waukesha County Sheriff's detectives out on Okauchee Lake this Memorial Day weekend to keep you safe
OKAUCHEE LAKE -- Officials with the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department spent the Memorial Day weekend like many in Wisconsin -- on a boat. They were working hard on Sunday, May 29th to ensure everyone had a fun and safe time out on Okauchee Lake in Oconomowoc.

Waukesha County Sheriff's officials took part in water patrols all weekend long -- amid a wave of boaters enjoying the warm weather.
"We pretty much pick what lake we want to go to," Jeff Adent said.
Waukesha County Sheriff's Detective Jeff Adent and Detective Mike Toole worked together Sunday -- one steering their boat while the other kept watch -- looking for things like boat registration issues and those without the required flotation devices on board.

One boat owner who was stopped on Sunday said new registration tags were en route via mail -- and that boater was allowed to go on his way.
Another boater was found to have no registration -- something that can happen when it comes to new boats.
"As long as you talked to him, that's fine," Adent said.
Earlier Sunday, the detectives stopped a boat with no life jackets on board whatsoever.

"Absolute no life jackets on it. That (boat), we ended up citing," Adent said.
One boater was cited because someone wasn't where they were supposed to be.
"Sitting on the sun pad while you are underway -- if he falls off right there, he's going right into your prop," Adent said.

Memorial Day weekend had some officers trading the highway for the water -- but the objective was the same.
On Okauchee Lake, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department wasn't the only agency out on Sunday. The Town of Occonomowoc and the Town of Merton were also running boat patrols.
