Snow emergency in Waukesha County

Waukesha County issued a snow emergency during Friday's winter storm. The county executive encouraged people to stay home and clear their driveways and sidewalks before temperatures drop.

Waukesha County extended its state of emergency through Monday, Jan. 15 due to severe winter weather. Following a winter storm warning, a wind chill advisory is now slated to take effect Sunday.

A warming center will open at the Waukesha County Expo Center as We Energies crews continue to restore power outages. It will open at 4 p.m. Saturday and offer cots and blankets, food and drink, mental health counseling and language translation.

County Executive Paul Farrow said Saturday there were 32 accidents and 84 cars in ditches after a winter storm blanketed the area in snow. Plows will go to a skeleton crew Saturday night on state and county highways.

In a Facebook post Saturday morning, Waukesha County released the preliminary statistics for calls answered:

  • 1,811 total calls answered
  • 598 outbound calls
  • 230 disabled vehicles
  • 166 vehicles in the ditch
  • 246 fallen trees
  • 226 electrical hazards
  • 70 property damage-only accidents
