Waukesha woman arrested for fourth OWI, accused of driving under the influence with kids in the car

WAUKESHA -- A Waukesha woman arrested for her fourth OWI appeared in court in Waukesha County on Tuesday, January 5th.

38-year-old Shelly Greeson was pulled over on Saturday, December 26th after an officer noticed her car swerving.

Greeson is facing charges of OWI (fourth offense, with a child in the vehicle) and operating a motor vehicle while revoked.

According to the criminal complaint, it was around 1:30 p.m. on December 26th when an officer observed the vehicle drifting and swerving.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop near 124th Street and Grange Avenue in New Berlin.

When an officer made contact with the driver, identified as Greeson, it was observed that there were two children in the vehicle -- ages eight and 10.

The complaint indicates the officer observed Greeson with "a thousand yard stare" when he made contact with her. The officer indicated she had difficulty finding the control to open the window and her movements were slow and lethargic.

Greeson denied drinking any alcohol or taking any medications on December 26th.

An officer detected a faint odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle, according to the complaint.

When asked again if she had been drinking, Greeson said "I had two," according to the complaint. When asked "two of what" Greeson said "Please don't ruin my Christmas."

The officer asked for ID, and Greeson pulled out a green credit card. It was then that the officer observed a can of beer in Greeson's purse.

It was learned Greeson was driving outside of her occupational hours. She has an occupational driver's license and was only allowed to drive on Saturdays between 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

When Greeson stepped out of the vehicle, the officer observed a can of beer in the door pocket.

Greeson refused to perform field sobriety tests, saying: "It doesn't matter. You're going to arrest me anyway," according to the complaint.

Greeson was then placed under arrest for OWI.

A partially consumed can of beer was recovered from her vehicle, along with a plastic cup filled with a liquid that smelled like mouthwash.

Greeson was eventually taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for a blood draw.

The complaint indicates while at the Waukesha County Jail, without any prompting, Greeson said she's addicted to alcohol and unable to quit. She indicated she would likely consume alcohol after "drying out" at the jail.

Greeson's previous OWI convictions occurred in March 2001, March 2003, and May 2012.

Greeson's driver's license was revoked at the time of the alleged incident on December 26th.

Greeson has a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 13th.
