“We couldn’t be more excited:" Sendik's to open at site occupied by Greendale Fire Station
GREENDALE -- On Tuesday, June 16th, Sendik’s Food Markets announced it will open a Sendik’s Fresh2GO store in the Village of Greendale. Greendale's Village Board voted to accept the offer from Sendik's on Tuesday evening, and it was a unanimous decision, according to Greendale Village Manager Todd Michaels.
The store, which will include gasoline pumps, will be located at 6200 W. Loomis -- at the northwest corner of Loomis Road and Southway. This will be the second Fresh2GO location for the local chain. The other is located in Bayside.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be joining the Greendale community,” said family co-owner Ted Balistreri. “This is a great location with convenient access for village residents. We will be working hard to redevelop this property into a beautiful store that will make our new neighbors proud.”
The store will be approximately 8,500-square feet and will feature a Fresh2GO signature deli offering homemade paninis, sliced-to-order pizza and other fresh favorites. Additionally, guests will enjoy full-service meat and bakery departments, an optimized grocery offering, floral and gifts from Sendik’s Home, Sendik’s famous produce and more.
“This is an important site for the village, and we are very happy to have a great partner in Sendik's,” said Greendale Village Manager Todd Michaels. “As the first Sendik's Fresh2GO store in southern Milwaukee County, the store will be a great commercial destination and bring jobs to our community. This is a successful local company that we are proud to welcome to Greendale.”
The sale now enters a "due diligence" period, which is the closing period for the sale of the building.
Todd Michaels tells FOX6 News the goal is for the Greendale Fire Department to be out of the building as soon as possible after the due diligence period ends. Michaels says the village has committed to building a new fire station. He says the hope is for bids by the end of this year, and construction would then begin in spring of 2016.
There is no definitive date for when the sale would be final.
The store is expected to open in the summer of 2016 with 45 employees. Sendik's hopes to being construction this fall.
This is the 14th announced metro Milwaukee location for the Whitefish Bay-based grocer. Another location, a full line store, is planned for The Corners of Brookfield.
