WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- We Energies crews were on the scene of a gas leak that occurred near S. 81st Street and Grant Street in West Allis.
It happened between 2:30 and 2:45 Thursday afternoon.
A We Energies spokesman says a construction crew was working in the area when the gas leak began.
We Energies crews were able to find the source of the leak. It happened on a service line right where it connects to the gas main.
A We Energies spokesman tells FOX6 News 40 customers were being affected by this leak. They were without power.
Some residents were evacuated by Milwaukee Fire Department officials -- but they were eventually being let back into their homes.
