We Energies: Dozens of business customers targeted by scammers this weekend

MILWAUKEE -- We Energies officials say they received dozens of calls this past weekend from business customers reporting they had received scam calls.

We're told between 60 and 75 business customers called We Energies this weekend -- indicating they had received calls from someone who claimed they need to pay an overdue bill within the next few hours, or their service would be shut off.

It is unknown whether anyone fell victim to this scam this weekend.

FOX6 News has warned you about this scam recently.

We Energies officials say this year, to date, there have been 30 business customer victims who have lost $24,000 as a result of this scam.

This year, We Energies has taken more than 1,000 calls from business customers saying they were targeted with this type of scam.

Scammers seem to be targeting restaurants, nail salons and vet clinics.

Just this weekend, reports of the scam being attempted came from all over the We Energies service area, including Kenosha, Milwaukee, Waukesha and the Fox Valley.
