"We're pretty much on top of it:" Residents can't wait until Zoo Interchange bridge demolition is done
MILWAUKEE -- You may have heard it while you were sleeping -- work is still being done on the Zoo Interchange project. Lately, crews have been working on the demolition of a bridge -- and residents can't wait until that's over.
"It was very loud, it kept the kids up both nights. The past two nights it kept them up late," said Amy Williams, who lives next to the construction zone. "We're pretty much on top of it."
Demolition of 84th St. bridge
On Monday, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) began tearing down the old I-94 bridges over 84th St.

"When we take the deck off, the steel girders, there's more of a pinning noise and a higher pitched noise. So those first couple of nights, the noise is higher," said Mark Klipstein, construction project manager with WisDOT.
Because of that, many of the residents who live nearby have had sleepless nights.
"Oh yeah, around 9 o'clock, the front room will get lit up because of the lights from all the construction," said Williams. "My daughter's room, we hang a blanket over the windows or the curtains just to keep out the extra light because it's really bright."
The good news for neighbors -- the bridge work is set to end late next week.
By the way, drivers looking to avoid the construction zone should take either 92nd St. or 76th St.
