WEST ALLIS -- It may be Friday the 13th, but it was one lucky day for two adorable ducklings in West Allis.
According to the West Allis Fire Department, firefighters were thanked for their "big save of the day" -- baby ducklings!
The first rescue was from a storm sewer near S. 67th and Lincoln at 8:00 a.m. Firefighters found five ducklings in a storm sewer with what they believe was a mother duck flying and circling around them.
Firefighters were able to get the ducks out and place them in a safe area near their mother in an effort to reunite them.
The second rescue happened at 10:00 a.m. at the same location -- in the storm sewer. This time, there were only three ducklings, and no mother duck around. Firefighters gave the ducklings to a passerby who offered to take the ducklings to the humane society.
The fire department used a special duckling saving bucket, dubbed as the "Duck Saver 2000," designed by in-station personnel to help transport the ducklings to care.
The West Allis Fire Department is happy to report that no ducklings were injured during these rescues.
Too cute!
