West Bend police: 15-year-old high school student taken into custody after bomb threat

WEST BEND -- West Bend police said on Tuesday, May 3rd a 15-year-old female West Bend High School student was taken into custody after a bomb threat was made at the school on Monday. Police said charges of "bomb scare" and disorderly conduct were being referred to juvenile authorities.

The bomb threat was apparently made late Monday afternoon. School officials immediately notified police. The school was searched -- and nothing suspicious was found.

"I think it's kind of sad that someone takes the place that they go to school, and get their education from, like, kind of, as a joke," said Anna Neuburg, a West Bend High School graduate.

"It's so disruptive to the learning environment and the community. Gets people nervous. Gets kids nervous," said Ted Neitzke, West Bend School District superintendent.

Neitzke said police were notified as soon as the threat was discovered. Hours later, when the investigation allowed it, the school community was alerted.

"We decided late in the evening that, 'Well, they've interviewed enough students. We want to try to get ahead of this and make sure that the community knows what's going on,'" Neitzke said.

The superintendent explains there is concern for any student who may make a bomb threat at any of the schools in West Bend. But ultimately, he said the primary concern is the safety of all students.

There was an increased police presence at West Bend High School on Tuesday.
