WEST BEND -- West Bend police are warning about a scam in which a man is posing as a We Energies employee and attempting to collect a utility payment.
Police say they received a complaint about this on Monday, August 31st.
The suspect was attempting to collect a utility payment via the use of a pre-paid credit card at the We Energies customer's business.
Police say this man is NOT a We Energies employee.
Additionally, police say scams like this have happened in other jurisdictions in southeastern Wisconsin, and in West Bend back in 2013.
In each instance, the fake employee attempted to obtain credit card numbers from customers or have the customer obtain a pre-paid credit card and provide the card information to the scammer.
We Energies has advised that they never collect payment from customers at a residence or in the field.
The West Bend Police Department and We Energies officials encourage anyone who encounters this type of activity to contact their local law enforcement agency and do not provide any credit card information.
