West Bend police: Man cuts neck in Fleet Farm parking lot after bank robbery, brief pursuit
WEST BEND -- West Bend police say a robbery suspect sustained a self-inflicted injury at a Fleet Farm store following a robbery and brief pursuit on Thursday evening, February 25th.
Police say around 5:00 p.m., the man entered the "Westbury Bank" near Washington Street and Wildwood Avenue and handed a note to the teller, demanding money.
An undetermined amount of money was obtained by the suspect.
A witness observed the suspect run to a pickup truck that was parked across the street from the bank, and the witness then saw the suspect drive east on W. Washington Street.
The witness called police and provided a description of the truck and the suspect’s direction of travel.
Police responded and attempted to stop the man.
After a brief pursuit, the suspect stopped his truck in the Fleet Farm parking lot at near 18th and Washington.
Police say the man exited the truck -- holding a knife to his neck.
Officers attempted to get the suspect to drop the knife. After a brief period, the suspect cut his neck before officers could disarm him.
He was taken to Froedtert Hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injuries.
The suspect is being held on a charge of robbery and a felony warrant with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office for possession of drugs .The robbery charge will be referred to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.
