West Bend woman arrested for OWI; officials say she had 3 children in her vehicle

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A 26-year-old West Bend woman was arrested for a first-time OWI offense on Saturday, July 23rd.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office reports a bartender from a Town of Polk bar called around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday to report a hysterical female in the lot with three children in her vehicle. The bartender indicated the driver had obviously been drinking and was lost.

Officials say two deputies arrived and discovered the woman had bruised knees and was covered in cake frosting. They say she was very evasive about what happened -- and deputies initially thought she was involved in some type of domestic altercation.

Deputies were able to find a sober party at a relative’s home. That person came to the scene and took custody of the three children.

Officials later learned there was a party at the house -- and part of the festivities involved a "cake battle." They say the woman was not involved in any type of domestic dispute.

Officials say the woman had a blood alcohol level of .17 -- or more than twice the legal limit.
