Whipping winds had some busy dealing with downed tree limbs, power outages Thursday

KENOSHA -- A Wind Advisory was issued for all of southeastern Wisconsin until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12th -- and it was quite the blustery day!

On Thursday afternoon, Larry Oliver was working to help clean up, after a limb was ripped from a friend's tree in Kenosha.

"The live side was the west side, over the house. The storm took care of that. So now, before it falls on the house and takes the house out, gotta take it down," Oliver said.

Oliver wasn't alone.

In the area near 80th Street and 48th Avenue in Kenosha Thursday, as winds were whipping, We Energies crews were busy responding to multiple addresses.

Linda Wikel says a portion of her pine caused problems when it fell on power lines behind her house.

"You can see it. It burned. Last night was really loud. We had rain. We had thunder. We had a lot of wind gusts, and we`ve been told we`re gonna have more," Wikel said.

Wikel spent about five hours without power on Thursday morning.

"How excited to get over a garage light going on! That means my door's gonna work, which means electricity! Okay!" Wikel said.

A We Energies spokesman says during the early part of Thursday, the windy weather and the subsequent outages were manageable.

"Since the storm first moved in last night, probably about a couple thousand that have been out in total, but at any one time, probably just a few hundred, which means that our resources have not been stretched too thin," Brian Manthey said.
