WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. - North Shore firefighters battled a garage fire that spread to the attached house on N. Lydell Avenue in Whitefish Bay early Tuesday, May 30.
The initial call for the fire came in around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. When crews arrived on the scene, they found fire coming from the garage and spreading to the first-floor kitchen and second-floor soffit.
Crews also had to contend with power lines that burned through and were on the ground in the rear of the home.
First, the flames lit up the neighborhood. Then there was sparking from the power lines.
"For us in the North Shore, not a typical night for us," said Dan Tyk, North Shore Fire/Rescue. "Ultimately, there was a lot of work because of where the fire had gone through the garage."

Tyk said his crews put the fire out before it reached parts of the house.
"It is very lucky that is not just the garage but the garage and not the living space of the home," said Tyk.

There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation, but it may have been electrical in nature.
"The other huge advantage is they have working smoke alarms," said Tyk. "Very quickly, they were alerted, beyond them finding the fire."
Officials estimated the damage to be worth $150,000.
