"Who dreams this is going happen?!" Two brides jilted by Sheboygan bridal shop

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) — Planning a wedding isn't always easy and it really becomes a mess when a bridal shop suddenly closes. It happened in Sheboygan and, of course, the brides-to-be aren't happy.

Every bride looks forward to finding that perfect wedding dress.

Morgan Dittmar is getting married in June and found the gown she'll wear at Amelishan Bridal in Hubertus.

Becky Briese is getting married in May and is busy making finals preps for her big day.

Morgan Dittmar (left) and Becky Briese (right) ran into a wedding dress mess after Bridal Essence in Sheboygan suddenly closed down in 2014.

Planning for both brides was going well until they got jilted by Bridal Essence in Sheboygan.

"They usually say something will go wrong, but this is a big thing to go wrong," Briese said.

"Who dreams this is going happen?" Dittmar said.

The bridal shop on South Pier Drive sits empty now, but last year both Dittmar and Briese said yes to a dress there.

Briese bought her dress in March of 2014.

"A little early for most brides to find their dress, but I got a great deal on it," Briese said.

Morgan purchased her dress in July of 2014.

"They said, 'we'll just keep it here until you're ready to come in for like, your first fitting or alterations or whatever. We'll give you call,'" Dittmar said.

Bridal Essence in Sheboygan is now closed, but some brides were left without dresses after buying them in 2014.

When the time came to get the dresses ready for the big day, there was a big problem.

"No dresses. No nothing. They have my dress. We've paid for it completely," Dittmar said.

The shop closed.

"She called me and asked me how I was doing and I said, 'I have some bad news for you. I'm closing my shop,'" Briese said.

The owner of Bridal Essence, Patricia Vollmer, ran into some trouble.

Court records show Vollmer and the shop have four closed civil cases and owe more than $156,000.

The property owner told FOX6's Contact 6 Vollmer hadn't been paying her rent for months and he evicted her.

The eviction process started in May, which is odd because Dittmar bought her dress in July.

"I was like, at a loss," Dittmar revealed.

So what happened? That's a good question.

Contact 6 sent Vollmer a letter, in addition to calling, texting and even showing up at Vollmer's home in Chilton. There has been no response as to what happened with Bridal Essence.

Dittmar ran into similar issues when she tried to get in touch with the shop.

"They had not said anything. There's no e-mail. No phone call. Nothing. I tried to give them a call and their phone number was disconnected," Dittmar said.

Briese had a little more luck. She was actually told the shop was closing down, so she disputed the charge for the dress with her credit card company.

"I received my money back," Briese said.

She then found the same dress at Stone Manor in Grafton.

"They saved me in regards to being able to get the dress that I wanted," Briese said.

Dittmar wasn't offered anything. She actually had to take legal action and only then was she able to get the dress she had purchased.

"I think we were just happy getting something -- because we couldn't contact them for so long," Dittmar said.

Now, Dittmar has another problem. She wasn't able to get a hold of Bridal Essence on her own and she purchased another dress. She now has two dresses for her wedding day.

Dittmar's still deciding what she'll do with both dresses, but neither she nor Briese want other brides to experience anything like this.

"In looking back at it, I definitely would have done maybe more research," Dittmar said.

"I felt as if maybe I should have been smarter and I should have researched," Briese said.
