Wisconsin Filipinos search for family members after super typhoon

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Communication within The Philippines continues to be an obstacle after the country took a pounding from Super Typhoon Haiyan -- but Milwaukee residents with family overseas are having an even tougher time.

Some Filipinos in southeastern Wisconsin are still struggling to locate family members.

"I do not know yet what is happening to my family. We don't have any communication at all, not at all -- since Thursday night," said Belinda Refuerzo Tenorio.

Tenorio and her brother, Benedicto, along with his wife, Maria have several family members living in Tacloban -- one of the areas hardest hit by Friday's typhoon.

"We have a house in Tacloban City," said Tenorio. "If you look at the pictures in the texts it is totally wrecked and, in fact, my house is within the center of Tacloban City."

The three have been keeping an eye on news reports coming out of the region since early in the week. Benedicto and Maria plan to leave for The Philippines as soon as possible to look for their family.

"We just pray that hopefully everyone will get helped," said Tenorio.
