WI Republicans gather for Election Night watch party at Thompson event
PEWAUKEE -- Wisconsin was considered a battleground state in "Election 2012" and both political parties hosted Election Night watch parties Tuesday night, as results rolled in. Republicans held their watch party in Pewaukee Tuesday night.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, FOX News called Wisconsin for President Barack Obama. Later, President Barack Obama became the projected winner of the presidential election.
In Wisconsin, Democrat Tammy Baldwin was projected as the winner of Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race -- over Republican challenger Tommy Thompson.
As Wisconsin went blue, an air of disappointment descended over the crowd at the Thompson event/Republican Party watch party Tuesday night.
Several Republican Party leaders were on hand Tuesday night, including Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen -- to name a few. Additionally 700 supporters reportedly RSVP'd to the watch party.
"I'm cautiously optimistic. We felt that Wisconsin was in play and if we won it would be by an inch. Hopefully that`s just part of a mix of what will just be a squeaker and it seems like it might be. It would be nice to be part of a significant win for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan," Gov. Walker said.
After months of campaigning and debates, candidates stepped off the campaign trail on Tuesday, and voters headed to the polls.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and VP candidate Paul Ryan cast their ballots Tuesday morning in their hometowns -- Ryan in Janesville and Romney in Boston. Both were in Boston Tuesday night.
