Windsurfer killed by UW rescue boat on its way back from an unrelated call
MADISON — A windsurfer has been killed in Madison by a University of Wisconsin rescue boat on its way back from answering an unrelated call for help.
University of Wisconsin-Madison officials issued a statement Thursday afternoon, June 1st saying that the 43-year-old victim hasn't been identified pending notification of his family.
The boat struck the man around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday on Lake Mendota. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dane County Medical Examiner planned to perform an autopsy Thursday.
The man had rented equipment from the Hoofer Sailing Club at Memorial Union.
The boat was returning to the UW Lifesaving Station after responding to a rescue call.
