Winter's coming back! Hardware store staff prep salt, shovels & more for wintry mix

MILWAUKEE — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm WARNING for all of southeastern Wisconsin beginning Monday morning, December 28th. That Winter Storm Warning will run from 9:00 a.m. Monday through 6:00 a.m. Tuesday. It’s an abrupt return to the winter weather for southern Wisconsin — and the FOX6 Weather Experts predict this storm system will be a windy, wintry mess.

Winter Storm Warning

The FOX6 Weather Experts say ice and sleet will likely make roads slick, and could build up on power lines. Additionally -- we're expecting high winds, and some snow accumulation.

This is just our second winter storm this season in southeastern Wisconsin.

"It`s been a real weird year for us," Gene Precourt, assistant manager at the Martens Reliable True Value store near 76th and Bradley in Milwaukee said.

Precourt and his staff at the True Value store are expecting a busy Monday.

"We`ve probably moved as much salt today (Sunday) as we have all season long so far," Precourt said on Sunday.

The FOX6 Weather Experts say snow won't be the biggest issue on Monday.

Most will see just an inch of accumulation -- while counties to Milwaukee's north and west could see double that.

The real issue is expected to be strong winds, and a wintry mix.

"People have been waiting in anticipation. Now we have this boatload of wintry mix coming in," Precourt said.

This is being described as a "high impact storm," which will likely begin in the late morning on Monday, and continue into Tuesday morning.

City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works officials plan to hit the streets with 96 salt trucks beginning at 2:00 a.m. Monday.

There's no word yet as to whether this storm will impact the moratorium on winter parking regulations in Milwaukee.

Last week, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced a reprieve until the end of the year.

"Because there is no snow and because we`re not expecting any snow between now and the end of the year, we thought, let`s be nice to people and ease up on the regulations," Mayor Barrett said last week.

The Martens Reliable True Value store will open at 8:00 a.m. Monday, and employees will even drag an extra pallet of salt out in front of the store to make it easier for you to get what you need.
