Wisconsin Assembly GOP to pick leaders
MADISON — Wisconsin Assembly Republicans are set to choose their leaders for the upcoming legislative session following their resounding Election Day victories in the chamber.
Republicans went into the election with a 63-36 advantage in the Assembly. They held all their seats and took out Democratic incumbent Chris Danou of Trempealeau to go into the session with a 64-35 edge, their largest majority since 1957.
Assembly Republicans were scheduled to meet early Monday afternoon to vote on their leaders. Robin Vos is widely expected to remain speaker.
Things could be a little more interesting for Majority Leader Jim Steineke. He disavowed Donald Trump during the campaign but said last week that Trump helped Republicans down the ticket and he's excited about having Trump as president.
