Wisconsin delegates excited to cast ballot for Romney/Ryan

TAMPA -- Tuesday, August 28th was not only the official first day of the Republican National Convention after weather worries over Isaac canceled most activities on Monday, but Tuesday was also "delegates day." The biggest responsibility of a Convention delegate is to cast a ballot to nominate the presidential and vice-presidential candidates. Mitt Romney officially clinched the GOP presidential nomination on Tuesday to move a step closer in his five-year quest for the White House.

25-year-old Sol Grosskopf and the rest of the Wisconsin delegation is getting the star treatment, along with front row seats at the GOP Convention in Tampa.

"We're in a Cheesehead Revolution right now. I was fortunate to be at three national conventions and this is the first time where, to say you're from Wisconsin, is to be counted among rock stars," Grosskopf said.

Wisconsin's 42 delegates cast their ballots to nominate Romney for president, and Wisconsin's own Paul Ryan for vice president.

"To actually be part of this for Wisconsin and one of our homegrown guys is exciting," delegate Cathy Kiernan said.

"I actually got choked up just doing that," delegate Crystal Berg said.

31-year-old Bryan Steel took special pride in casting a ballot for his hometown congressman.

"Being from Janesville, I think the real excitement is we're taking Paul Ryan's message and we're going to take that out across Wisconsin and across the whole country," Steel said.

Gov. Scott Walker garnered a lot of attention on the floor and soaked in a sustained ovation when his name was called to deliver the Wisconsin delegation's roll call. At least one Wisconsin delegate envisions a day when Gov. Walker himself is the one being nominated.

"We're going to keep him for a while, but I think our country is going to be begging for Scott Walker to be the President someday, too," Kiernan said.

Gov. Walker has said repeatedly he's happy as governor of Wisconsin and he's going to let the chips fall where they may when it comes to his political future.
